What to do with the old Router?
vor 5 Tagen
Hello everyone,
Currently I use speedport smart router as rental with my campaign. I want to change my tariff since it will expire next month with fiber optic. When I try to change it asks me if I want a new router or not. Since I have one already I don't know what to select. When I change the tariff do I need to ship back the old one? Should I choose a new router?
Could you please help me?
Thank you.

Hello @mertkolay
If the router is rented, you can continue to rent and use it under the existing conditions. However, a fiber optic modem is required, which is then connected to the router via a LAN cable.
If you want to save yourself the expense of a fiber optic modem, you can also rent the Speedport Smart 4 with a fiber optic connection, in which case you will no longer need a modem. You will then have to terminate the rental agreement for the old router and, if necessary, return the device.
Best regards, LERNI

Hello @mertkolay,
unfortunately, I could not reach you via telephone just now.
As @Lerni has already correctly pointed out, you do not have to get a new router. You may simply keep the rental plan or your current router active. For the future fibre-connection, however, you will require the external fibre-modem as the Speedport Smart 4 does not have an internal one.
You can simply choose the "Glasfaser-Modem 2" on the screenshot you provided.
Kind regards
Jonas

Hey there @mertkolay,
maybe there is a misunderstanding? 🤔
You need a few devices to use a fiber connection in your appartment.
1. The fiber socket (white squared box with Home ID on it) - this is where the fiber enters your appartment.
2. A modem, for example the Glasfasermodem 2 (black square box), which translates the optical light signal into digital data, so a router can connect you to the internet.
3. The router itself, that provides WLAN and usable LAN-ports. Some routers, like the FritzBox 5590 Fiber, have an integrated modem, so they don't need the additional Glasfasermodem 2.
You don't replace the fiber socket with a Glasfasermodem. That would break the whole thing. 😅
Any further questions I may assist you with?
Kind regards
Louisa

Thank you for explaining :)
My question is when I change my tariff and buy the glasfaser modem 2, I will just connect them myself, right? Or do I need any technician?

If you have already affixed a fiber optic ID to the fiber optic box, you will not need a technician for installation.
You will then receive an activation link via email. 🙂
Best regards
