What is required to use Telekom's fibre optic internet?

vor einem Jahr

Telekom engineers installed this box in my apartment after I opted to switch from Vodafone following Telekom's installation of glass fibre in our building. After almost 2 years, today is the day I am supposed to start enjoying Telekom. But it has been a terrible experience. I have gone out to buy the Speed Port Smart 4 router which Telekom's customer service told me I needed. It turns out, there is no way to either connect the router to the little Telekom box or to even activate the Telekom device as the web activation code asks for a 12 or 16-digit ID which I can not find anywhere.

Does anyone know how I can solve this?

NB: The white box besides the Telekom device is an old thingy I met in the house. It is not part of the equation.

      Hi @sam.odum,

Did they sell you a Speedport Smart 4 or a Speedport Smart 4 Plus? You need the latter one for Telekom Fibre. If you have the Plus, the connector is behind a small lid on the back of the Speedport, and the package should also contain an optic connection cable.

Depending on the size of your flat, you might also want to use a Fritzbox 5530 or 5590, alternatively.

Or, as @buenni said, you can put an external modem between the Smart 4 (non-plus) and the connector box.

      Greetings

Thanks @buenni and @ExRatinger . I've just bought the modem @buenni suggested. I'll just drill up some hole on the wall to pass the charger cable.

@ExRatinger It went really well. And my internet speed is through the roof. The switch to Telekom was worth it. I have now ordered a 15meter-long fibre-optic cable so I can relocate the modem and router to a secure and permanent location. Thanks again for your help.
