How can I activate Glasfaser Modem 2?

vor einem Jahr

Hi all,

I got a new connection with 600MBit/s download and 300MBit/s. However, my PC only reach 190MBit/s download and 270MBit/s upload. I think it might be the Speedport Smart 4 Plus router was in the technical box and the wall can block the signal.

I was suggested to buy the Glasfaser Modem 2 and put this modem 2 in the technical box and use the cable to connect the Glasfaser Modem  and the Speedport Smart 4 Plus.

The Speedport Smart 4 Plus will be in the homeoffice room, so the signal will be better.

I would like to ask 2 questions:

- With the cable to connect both Glasfaser Modem  and the Speedport Smart 4 Plus, will the internet speed can reach 600MBit/s?

- How can I activate the Glasfaser Modem 2? I don't think I just plug it in and it will work.

I hope someone or a staff from Telekom can help me.

Vielen Dank!

yes, but what happens if you are opening the technical box an stay in front of it

Can the Router archive 600 Mbit/s - ist should.

Otherwise you have a problem maybe with the Computers WLAN Card.

all the Hotline and ask theme to change the modem serialnumber in the Telekom Backend - this takes 1 minute of work.

    Thank you for this suggestion.

I wasn't able to bring my computer closed to the technical box, instead I used my phone and checked many locations for the internet speed.

Closer to the technical box, the speed could reach more than 500MBit/s. At the table where the computer is the speed was around 280MBit/s.

@Stefan  Should I connect the Glasfaser Modem 2 to the glass fiber line, and call the hostline to ask the technical support to change the modem ID or I should call them first before I connect the modem to the fiber line (or turn it on)?

Thank you again for your help!

That's up to you and doesn't really make a difference.

Personally, I would call them on my cell phone.

As soon as I have a person on the other end who knows what I want.

I would transfer the cable from the old modem to the new (already running) one.

This results in the shortest downtime and an immediate success check.

Keep in mind that the modem must light up green when the operation was successfull

Before you have access to the Internt the router must be reconfigured to use an external modem.

    Hi Johannes,

    It worked perfectly.

However, when I called technical support, the support agent insisted that connecting the Speedport Smart 4 Plus to the Glasfaser Modem 2 wouldn’t work. I suspect he was trying to sell me the Mesh solution, although I knew it from reading the Speedport Smart 4 Plus manual and it was also the original setup in my apartment.

To be honest, I lost my patience after over 15 minutes on the call. Eventually, I asked the support agent to simply enter the new Modem ID into the system, which resolved the issue.

He also recommended turning off the Glasfaser Modem 2 for 5 minutes to achieve the maximum speed of 600 MBit/s, as I was experiencing lower speeds.

Many thanks, Stafan for his consultation, and you for checking it out.

    Have a good weekend!
