Do I need to return this router?
Sure.
and if so, how do I get a box to return it in?
You have to find one yourself if you did not keep the one the router came in.
Is it possible to drop it off in person?
I don't think so. But you can easily grab the necessary QR code at https://retoure.telekom-dienste.de/miete/ and drop off the parcel at any nearby DHL shop.
