Speedport Pro Plus Network storage

Hello all :

I'm trying to create a network storage by plugging in the WD 'my passport' external hard disk into one of the USB ports of the Speed Pro Plus router.  But i can't see them anywhere.

In the router web page (http:// speedport.ip), under 'connected devices' i see this device listed under 'usb devices'.

I have enabled the SMB 1.0 in windows.

In the network file explorer in my laptop, i see speed port pro under 'network infrastructure' and speed port pro plus under 'other devices'. But when i double click on them, it takes me to the web page for login into the router.

I browsed through some old posts in this community, most of them were related to issues at an advanced stage where users could already see the files in the network.

I have not done this kind of setup before. The hard disk  is a compact one and i usually connect it to the laptop and read/write contents directly. It just has a USB cable coming out if it. No external power or LAN slots.  I assumed this to be a plug and play kind of set-up.  Am I missing a step, or is this question of compatibility ?

Please could you guide me to achieve this ?

Thank you,

Vivek
