Everything attached to Ethernet Port stops getting internet

vor 4 Jahren

Hi,

I apologize for writing my question in English but my German is not good enough for these technical subjects. I hope someone will be able to help me regardless.

I have a problem with my Speedport Smart 3 router. Specifically everything connected via the ethernet port - I have a small internal network at home, consisting of a cat 7 cable from the Speedport to a patch panel and then a netgear gigabit switch. from here i connect to my media server, tv box and another desktop cisco gigabit switch in my guesthouse / home office which connects to my office computer via ethernet cable.

At least 2 or three times a day, whenever i am doing video conferencing or streaming from or sending large files to my media server i lose the connection to everything on the internal network and to the gateway, my smtp connection disconnects or if i am in a video conference i suddenly lose connection to the internet and can no longer ssh into any of the machines on the network. Once i have restarted the Speedport it all comes back online again.

The wifi on the speedport continues working throughout this and seems unaffected by whatever happens to the rest of the network.

I've looked at the logs but i'm not sure what i'm really looking for here, if anyone has any idea what could be causing this or what i can look for in the log files i would be most grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Hallo,

      Hallo @homeofficebozo

Does the error also occur without the switches directly at the router?

I'm not convinced this is the issue. IPv6 for the local network is already switched off.

      netDropIPv6.png

IPv6 for the gateway and DNS does not seem to be something i have any control over. If it is a IPv6 issue caused by the router settings that i cannot change then there is not much i can do anyway.

I think this is a sign of a faulty individual device or a broader issue with the speedport. We shall see if a new router fixes things or not...

You cannot be serious... What is wrong with some people?

This is a mutli-site thread dedicated to a very specific and delicate issue and you're closing it with: "Nevermind, got it"!?

@homeofficebozo  Would you PLEASE care to explain what exactly you did to solve the issue? Some people (like me) read through this thread and get their hopes up only to be left with: "Found the solution, bye". I guess it's still too much to expect people to THINK in 2021...

Sorry for the bad tone, it is just SO UNBELIEVABLY FRUSTRATING to see that kind of closure to a thread that describes the exact problem you've been having for months now.

The surprisingly easy solution was ordering Starlink, since then i've had decent speeds and with a Ubiquity Router in the place of that trash box from Telekom the network hasn't crashed once ; )
