DSL Hybrid 5G connection consistenly below 10 Mbps (previously 200+ Mbps)

vor 2 Jahren

I have a DSL connection with the Hybrid 5G extension. The DSL conneciton (50 MBps) and 5G (upto 300 Mbps). I typically get 200+ Mbps since installation, however in the recent days this has reduced to below 15 Mbps (legal minimum) conistently. I have tried moving the 5G receiver etc, no luck. Lights on the 5G receiver is green, and all connections seem active as per the Speed Port 4 router.

I have also gone through the fault reporting steps that led me through some automated steps like restaring the router, reconfiguring it etc. All of which ended in a fault being reported.

Unfortunately, the person assigned to case was not able to speak in English and gave a number to call that does not work (08003301080). Hence, I am posting it here. Hopefully, someone here can help resolve this issue.

Hey there! Thank you very much for the pleasant exchange over the phone. As previously mentioned, for now we'll swap the routers and see if the error rates decrease. In addition to that, I'll check on the performance of the connection tomorrow evening, to see if the mentioned errors decrease with the powerline unplugged. Talk to you soon! Kind regards - Christian H.

Hi there @nulltermination - Thank once more for the pleasant exchange. I am happy we could get rid of the FEC Errors by detaching the powerline. As discussed, I've sent you a new & longer cable for the 5G receiver. Should the cable length not be sufficient, please let us know. I'll be waiting for your response! Fröhlich Kind regards - Christian H.

Hello @Christian Ha. Got the new router, thanks for organising that. And now we are back to 10 Mpbs in the bonded state. Independently, both 5G and DSL are 80-100 Mbps.

The firmware is back to the August version. I suspect, repeating the downgrade should put it back to 50 Mbps bonded again. But for now I'm going to disconnect the 5G as DSL is at 100 Mbps.

Will try the longer cable once it arrives. But I'm not really hopeful with the new firmware. Any ideas if the team has prioritised the issue and if a fix is expected? This basically makes Hybrid DSL an overpriced DSL connection.

Further, can you also send a return label for the old router?

      Further update. @Christian Ha.

Received the long cable. Looks like no change in speed.

I'm going to leave the cable plugged in for the day to see if the FEC numbers remain down without the power line.

What next regarding the speed? If I plug in the 5G receiver the bonded speed is lesser than half the DSL speeds. So, I guess I'm paying extra to reduce my speed right now. 😅

      Hey there @nulltermination,

once more, thank you very much for the pleasant exchange. As I mentioned previously on the phone, although the issue is probably hardware-based, let's wait and see if swapping the receiver does anything at all to alter the bonding speed.

As for the fiber connection, I'll get in touch with the operators from the infrastructure department. Hopefully, I'll have an answer by Thursday.

      Kind regards - Christian H.

Hi there @nulltermination. Unfortunately, the folks over at the system and infrastructure department, which manages your new fiber optic line, have yet to respond. By the end of this hour, I'll address my inquiries to their superiors and ask for an update. If you wish to parley once more with me due to the hybrid-bonding issues, I'll be more than happy to follow that request. Kind regards - Christian H.

Thanks for chasing it @Christian Ha. Appreciate it.

We can definitely jump on a call when you are available.

I have received the new receiver but no change in issue. So, I'm fairly confident the issue is firmware related. Let me know if there any further debugging steps I can do.

@Christian Ha. it seems the issue has gone from bad to worse. Today, even with bonding disabled I am only getting around 10 Mbps.  Previously, atleast disabling bonding led to getting the full DSL speed (~100 Mbps).

Thank you @Christian Ha. Every bit helps. The 5G situation seems to be still unresolved, but the issue seems most definitely software/firmware related since we have basically tried to replace every single hardware  and cable in the mix.

Hi there @nulltermination; actually, I don't. I just checked the SIM-Card and it is active. I hesitate to say this, but have you disconnected and reconnected the power from the 5G transmitter? Kind regards - Christian H.

@Christian Ha. The new 5G receiver has detected the SIM correctly now. Disabled bonding again since the bandwidth issue still exists.

Any news on a new firmware?

      Hi @nulltermination,

I'm very sorry we didn't answer here yet.

We're waiting for the new firmware, too.

But I just checked the line. The downstream is very stable and the bandwidth is okay. Only the upstream has some issues. This should not be the reason why the bonding is disabled.

When it gets an LTE connection as soon as DSL is disconnected, then I guess it's the firmware issue that's hopefully fixed with the new firmware. Here we can only wait. I hope the release of the new firmware will come soon.

      Best regards Inga Kristina J.

      Hello @Inga Kristina J.

Thanks for following up. I guess we will just have to wait for the new firmware and hope it fixes the issue.

I am not sure I fully follow your statement about the line. I am assuming you mean that the DSL connection is stable. The bonding was disabled manually because of the bandwidth issue when it is enabled.  Independently, both the DSL and LTE connections are faster than when bonded.

ah okay, then I understand the bandwidth issue you mentioned. Yes, I meant the DSL connection.

Looks like the status of the SIM card is again going into an error state. This keeps happening and keeps requiring a hard restart of the 5G modem. Basically this makes this the third month that the 5G addon has been unusable now.

      Hi @nulltermination,

this might be a mere display error. Actually such an error occurs from time to time, even though the connection continues to be functional.

I just had a look at the line, and at the moment both DSL and LTE / 5G are working.

      Kind regards Inga Kristina J.

I doubt the connection is functioning as expected. Especially since the bandwidth is horrible when bonded and disabiling DSL when this happens cuts off internet.

And further, I suspect you are noticing the connection as "healthy" since I'm restarting the router - and that "fixes" the issue temporarily.

Whenever the issue occurs the orange light on the router blinks too. But I guess that the status on the LED is dependent on the software status.

In any case, can we please (pretty please) just get the glass fiber issue resolved so I can get away from this unreliable setup and stop spending time debugging a never ending series of issues?

This is really getting frustrating! 😭

      Hello @nulltermination,

I absolutely understand that this is frustrating.

The issues you're describing are software related. I really hope that we get the update we're waiting for very soon.

Depending the glass fiber, we're writing in your other thread.

The information about the delay has been deleted now, and the planning goes on.

      Kind regards Inga Kristina J.

Since it would seem that the glassfiber installation is unlikely to happen anytime soon  and it seems unlikely Telekom would upgrade the linecard to support SuperVectoring - what can I do here? Is the software related issue being worked on? Otherwise, I am paying an extra fee with the service not being delivered.

There seems to have been a new update posted here which I have manually installed and it seems that with bonding enabled (there is no longer an option to disable it), the download speeds now hit 80-100 Mbps. Which is a better situation than the previous 10 Mbps when bonding was enabled.

@Inga Kristina J. the Telekom portal keeps suggesting that I upgrade to XL to get 250 Mbps for a higher than my current tariff. Can someone please confirm that my tariff is not somehow limited to 100 Mbps? As I recall from the original add-on product sheet here, my tariff allows for a "maximum" of 300 Mbps via the 5G / LTE connection. Has this changed?

@Johannes P. Thanks for the call. Think, we spoke about a different ticket regarding by fiber connection. I appreciated your infromation, but it was nothing new as @Inga Kristina J. had already pointed out the situation there. What I need is updates from your interal queries.

The open question on this ticket is still valid - why the magenta portal is asking me to pay for an XL plan (VDSL100 + Hybrid5G) when I already have (VDSL100 + Hybrid5G).

Thank you for the pleasant call @nulltermination,

as already said: Your plan is still the "L" and the "XL" was cancelled, so maybe there overlapped an actualization or something like that.

Anyway, otherwise this thread is, at least right now, finished, if I understood everything correctly, and we can focus on the issue in the other one

I hope we will be able to move forward, but I can not promise it. I placed some further questions, though.

      Sincerely,

      Johannes P.
